The West Chester, Pennsylvania native arrived in the fall of 1999 and left Grounds as one of the greatest quarterbacks in Virginia Football history. His name remains etched throughout the record books, including the best completion percentage for a single season, and the second-most career passing yardage and passing touchdowns. By the time he finished Schaub had played in a record 40 games, set 22 offensive records, and was named the ACC’s Player of the Year in 2002.
Schaub was drafted in the third round of the 2004 draft and enjoyed a 17 year career with the Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans, Oakland Raiders, and Baltimore Ravens. Schaub was a two-time Pro Bowl selection, throwing for over 25,000 yards and leading the NFL in passing yards in 2009.
With a passion for helping those in need, in 2011, Matt and his wife Laurie founded the GR8HOPE Foundation, which sought to improve medical care for children and foster hope for future generations. In 2013, Matt, Laurie, and their children cut the ribbon on the newly expanded Emergency Care Area at the Texas Children's Hospital, Houston's first community hospital designed, built and equipped exclusively for children. Their generosity paved the way for the facility’s Child Life Playroom. Schaub retired from football in 2021 and shifted form the field to the booth where he now serves as an analyst for both the Atlanta Falcons and the Virginia Sports Radio Network. He and his family remain active in the community from their home in Atlanta.
