A Louisville native who grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, Dorsey came to Charlottesville in 2000, where he became a two-time letterwinner at safety for the Cavaliers. Known for his toughness and fearless play, Dorsey was a teammate who led by example and always looked out for others, which would later define his life’s work.
After earning his degree in Anthropology in 2005, Dorsey built a career that spanned environmental response, federal service, and ultimately, public safety. In 2018, he graduated from the Charlottesville Fire Academy and joined the city’s Fire Department, where he now serves as a firefighter, tillerman, and EMT. The leadership he exhibited on the field and in the locker room has also extended to the firehouse, where Dorsey has served as president of Local 2363 of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
To Dorsey, the parallels between football and firefighting are obvious—most notably, the camaraderie, teamwork, and shared purpose. Whether responding to emergencies, mentoring new recruits, or leading his union brothers and sisters, he brings the same passion and selflessness that once defined his days in orange and blue.
A devoted husband to Casee and proud father to Jay and Julian, Dorsey continues to make a profound impact on his hometown community: serving, protecting, and inspiring through every call answered.
