During his college career, the hard-hitting linebacker from Winston-Salem was a mainstay on Al Groh’s 3-4 defense, racking up countless tackles en route to All-ACC honors. A team captain and defensive MVP, Crowell still holds the school record for most tackles in a single season. Drafted in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft, Crowell played seven years in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While still a player his, his interest in business flourished, leading him to earn a certification in Business Management and Entrepreneurship from the Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Upon transitioning from the NFL, Angelo and his wife Kimberly — a former Wahoo cheerleader — founded Kalo Companies and began their partnership as restaurant franchisees. Since opening their first location in 2010, the team has grown its ownership of Jersey Mike’s Subs franchises to 68 stores across Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Kalo Companies employs nearly 1,000 people across their many locations, including Tallahassee, where the Crowells have received several awards for the significant economic opportunities that they have created alongside their entrepreneurial impact on the local economy.

The Crowells have partnered with the Children’s Home Society to offer early childhood programs and counseling for kids, and have also partnered with Boys Town and their local Special Olympics. In addition, Angelo remains a strong advocate for the Professional Athlete Franchise Initiative and actively educates professional athletes on the industry.
