In its fourth consecutive season, the Flag Bearer program remains a valued tradition that provides the opportunity to recognize the brotherhood of our Virginia Football Family and the contributions you have made to our program, the University, and your communities.

So what's with the flags?

Coach Mendenhall has long been a student of military history and the recurring image of the flag bearer as one who serves on the front lines, who represents a cause, and who leads the charge. As one of the most visible groups on Grounds, our players, whether in fact they choose the role for themselves or not, are indeed flag bearers. And by extension, so are those who came before.

Prior to kickoff of each game -- home and away -- two alums are chosen to lead the team onto the field, hoisting the colors of our program and our country. Those among us who have served in the military are given the honor of the latter. The orange V-Sabre alumni flag carries the signatures of members of the Virginia Football Family. Look for it at the next game or Club event.
